Best friend Forever

Best friends forever

My oldest, or should I say longest? Well, for sure my “best” friend recently came to visit me in Bali. We met when she was 2 and I was 3 years old, in my backyard, where she was sitting on my swing. I don’t remember this, but our moms told us.

In 47 years we have shared so many secrets; our first kiss happened in the summer of the same year, we have had boyfriends at the same time, married and got children around the same time. We have seen many friends come and go in our lives, but our friendship, with a lot of ups and downs, remains.

Now, at this age we have grown closer even more, despite the fact that she lives all the way on the other side of the globe. If something happens, we call each other. We love our children, we love our partners, but when our best friend is in town, they all know they have to make space for us.

What is it that makes friendships so important? For me it is the fact that there is someone who knows me deeply. Being known by someone and, after so many years, she stayed in my life. I must do something right.

In our program we address the 12 areas of balance in your life. Friendships and community is of course 1 of those twelve areas. To stay mentally sane and to be able to go through hardship in life it is important to have people around you that you can rely on and laugh with, really really hard.
