Physical Recovery Program in Bali: Strengthening the Mind–Body Connection
At The Reset Bali, we believe lasting recovery happens when mental and physical health are addressed together. Emotional stress, trauma, burnout, and anxiety do not only affect the mind—they are also experienced in the body through tension, fatigue, and an overactive nervous system.
Our Physical Recovery Program in Bali is designed to support the therapeutic work taking place in our mental health program. Through carefully selected activities and somatic practices, guests reconnect with their bodies, release stored stress, and build healthier physical routines that support long-term wellbeing.
Within the program, guests typically participate in over 10 hours of physical activities and somatic practices per week. For our adolescent guests, the number of physical activity hours is often even higher and can be adapted to include activities or sports that match their interests and energy levels.
This approach reflects an idea known since ancient times: “Mens sana in corpore sano” — a healthy mind in a healthy body, a famous Latin phrase from the Roman poet Juvenal. At The Reset Bali, this philosophy forms the foundation of our integrated recovery program.
Healing Your Mind With Your Body
Our physical activity program is tailored to each guest’s capacity and needs. It has been designed to complement our mental recovery program and help integrate and process emotions that arise during therapy.
When guests participate in counselling, psychotherapy, or hypnotherapy, emotional insights often surface. Movement and physical activity help the body process these experiences by reducing stress hormones, releasing tension, and supporting emotional balance.
Our somatic recovery approach focuses on reconnecting with the body in a supportive and healthy way. During the first week we usually recommend a calmer routine with more focus on yoga, stretching, and gentle movement to help the nervous system settle and create a strong foundation for recovery.
Resetting Your Relationship With Movement
Some guests arrive wanting to continue the same sports or intense training routines they follow at home. We can often accommodate personal preferences here in Bali. But we also encourage guests to explore new forms of movement during the program.
For some individuals, very demanding workout routines can create additional stress. In certain cases, exercise may even become a form of pressure or self-punishment rather than something restorative. The goal of our physical recovery program is to help guests develop a healthier relationship with movement and build sustainable habits.
Activities may include Yoga, Pilates, breathwork, personal training, outdoor movement, and sessions such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai at our partner gym Mejiro Bali (mejirogymbali.com). These sessions provide a fun and engaging way to build strength, endurance, and flexibility, while also helping channel energy in a constructive way—particularly for guests working through stress or anger.
To support recovery and mobility, we also work with Stretchr Bali, specialists in assisted stretching who help release muscular tension and improve flexibility.
